From the source
Ideogram compared eight AI image upscalers by enlarging the same 1024 × 1024 cat portrait in four of them and inspecting the downloads for eye structure, whiskers, ear hairs, collar weave and chest fur.
- The company says its own Upscale app is best for creators who want to pick an upscaling model and keep creating or editing in the same app, offering Auto and named models such as Topaz Standard 2, Text Refine, Bloom 2 and Redefine.
- Ideogram's app supports 2×, 4× or 8× enlargement where the source allows, with an output pixel budget equivalent to 8192 × 8192, and larger inputs can offer fewer scales.
- Nano Banana Pro instead uses 1K, 2K or 4K resolution choices, and only resolutions larger than the source are selectable.
- In the test, Ideogram Auto and Topaz Standard 2 both turned the original into a 2048 × 2048 watermark-free PNG, with Auto showing 12.58 credits.
- The Upscale app runs on any paid plan or with credits bought as needed, and Plus costs $20 monthly or $180 annually.
- Upscayl Desktop is free and runs locally if the graphics hardware is compatible, while Upscale.media gives a limited number of free downloads and Let's Enhance offers Prime and Gentle modes with browser batch jobs.
