Ideogram has published a comparison of AI tools for footwear design teams, testing its own Colorways and Material Swap on a sneaker image and reviewing Vizcom, NewArc, Raspberry AI and Adobe from their published documentation as of October 2026.
- The guide sorts tools by design stage, noting that an image, a concept mesh and an engineered footwear model serve different purposes.
- Ideogram's Colorways lets users paint up to four regions per photo and assign each a color or hex code, accepting up to six photos of the same product so a colorway can be checked across front, side and back views.
- Material Swap applies a supplied material reference, such as leather, suede, knit, mesh or a metallic finish, to a selected region, carrying over its color, texture, pattern scale and orientation.
- In Ideogram's own test, masking the burnt orange heel panel and supplying blue cotton canvas re-rendered the whole upper in blue woven canvas while the sole and lining stayed white, so the company advises checking the masked area in each result.
- Sketch to Render, available through Ideogram's API, turns a fashion or product sketch into photorealistic imagery and can produce up to eight renders in a range of aspect ratios per request.
- The guide also cites a Skechers case study describing Custom Branded Models trained for each product division alongside Material Swap referencing its Product & Material Library.
