Mistral has released the weights for Mistral Large 4, its trillion-parameter open source model, so businesses and governments can download and deploy the system themselves.
- The model, nicknamed "Le Chonk," was first introduced earlier this month, and the release lets organizations run frontier AI on their own infrastructure for cyber defense.
- Mistral says ML4 is comparable in performance to the Chinese open-weight model GLM-5.3, which was previously considered among the best open-weight models, particularly for cyber work, but uses 47 percent fewer tokens per task, making it significantly more economical.
- The company also claims the model outranks all other open models on agentic coding tasks on Artificial Analysis' Coding Agent Index.
- The weights are available on
Hugging Face and via Mistral's API.
- Pierre Stock, Mistral's Vice President of Science, said the open weights give organizations access to frontier intelligence for defending against cyberattacks that "can't be cut off by definition," and that companies can deploy the model on-prem in their own ecosystem.
- Stock said the model could identify, coordinate and respond in real time to major security incidents, and argued the capability should reach everyone quickly because some malicious actors may use their own technology to attack.
