Perplexity is launching Computer fully local on Mac, letting Pro, Max and Enterprise subscribers run the model, harness and task execution entirely on device.
- The company says this gives users more control over sensitive data and credit spend, since private files and Mac apps like Notes and Mail can be used without sending personal data to the cloud.
- It follows Personal Computer for Mac in May and last month's Hybrid Compute, which paired cloud reasoning with local models; the local option keeps planning, reasoning and file processing on the Mac.
- Computer runs Qwen 3.6 or PPLX Pro, a post-trained version of Qwen, and users can still authorize escalation to the cloud for current information, browser use and connected apps, where a local orchestrator can call on one of 15+ frontier models.
- Code and tool execution run in isolated sandbox environments with controlled access to files and connected apps, the same protocols used in the cloud version.
