OpenAI has acquired Orchestra Bio, a four-year-old startup whose AI agents handle the operational side of drug discovery, from tracking finances to resolving clinical trial scheduling issues.
- OpenAI says it is adding Orchestra's team and technology to Rosalind, its AI model for life sciences research, and to the related Rosalind Workbench tool, which helps researchers plan experiments and analyze results.
- Terms of the deal were not disclosed, though the startup had reportedly raised around $20 million as of 2025 from backers including Andreessen Horowitz, Atria and 8VC.
- OpenAI says Rosalind has already drawn customers including Moderna and Novo Nordisk.
- The deal fits a pattern in which the largest AI labs, OpenAI and
Anthropic among them, build more software for big industries such as pharma, while startups fear the labs will launch competing features.
