Moonshot appears close to releasing Kimi K3.1, after an anonymous model called Kibitz drew attention on Arena and the company published a teaser for the upcoming launch.
- Arena's own account told users a new model from @Kimi_Moonshot is coming, and X user Chris claimed it will arrive before Tuesday next week as a low-cost, state-of-the-art open-source model.
- Chris shared a comparison asking each model to "build what you think you look like in Minecraft," in which GPT-6 Astra placed 5,738 blocks at a cost of $5.31 while Kimi K3.1 placed 13,707 blocks for $0.38.
- Other early outputs showed a 3D helicopter with takeoff and landing, assembly and exploded views built in under 15 minutes, and one user found Kibitz noticeably faster than Claude Fable 5.1 in a 3D test, rating the result close to Opus 5.5 Medium.
- Those results come from one-shot Arena battles, so the report cautions they should be treated with scepticism until a model card appears.
- The pattern echoes Kimi K3, which was spotted on Arena under the codename Kivine in July and launched within days on July 16 as a 2.8-trillion-parameter model with a 1M-token context window, priced at $3 input and $15 output per million tokens, with open weights following on July 27.
