Ideogram compared seven AI design tools for T-shirt makers, testing its own Ideogram 4.5 by generating a transparent coffee graphic and editing out an unwanted cup handle.
- The comparison covers Ideogram, Kittl,
Recraft,
Midjourney, Canva, Adobe Firefly and ChatGPT across design generation, editing, downloads and commercial-use terms, with attention to what each free plan allows.
- Ideogram says its tool creates illustrations and lettering together, and that Ideogram 4.5 accepts up to five images for editing or combining in the Image app.
- Precise Edit lets users mask an area and add up to three reference images alongside the source image and mask, or four without a mask, while Layerize Text detects lettering and recreates it as editable text layers in Studio.
- In the test, both phrases were spelled correctly but the cup had an unwanted handle, which a follow-up instruction removed while keeping lettering, colors and layout consistent; both downloads were transparent 1024 × 1024 PNGs.
- Free users can generate transparent images and download them as 1K PNGs, while larger transparent downloads, further Precise Edit edits and the Upscale app require a paid plan or purchased credits.
- Ideogram's Terms of Service permit commercial use of generated output, though free-plan generations are public and Plus, Pro, Team and Enterprise keep new images private until published.
