GitHub is consolidating its Teams integration into a new GitHub app that combines notifications with Copilot, so teams can turn issues into fixes without leaving a conversation.
- Users get notified in channels, group chats or private chats, then mention @GitHub to have it investigate an issue, fix the bug and open a pull request for the team to review, test and merge.
- The app was previously called GitHub notifications, and existing installations keep their notification capabilities if they update to the latest version.
- The legacy GitHub app is being renamed "GitHub (deprecated)" and retired on November 16; anyone still using it must install the consolidated app to keep using Copilot in Teams.
- In the new app, users mention @GitHub and follow prompts to connect their GitHub account and pick a repository.
