Anthropic is expanding its AI for Science program to 20 scientific foundations, institutions and research groups worldwide, giving them free Claude credits for high-impact research.
- The program began in May 2025 to increase researchers' access to AI tools, and Anthropic says scientists use Claude to generate hypotheses, design experiments, analyze complex data and communicate findings.
- The new partners include funders such as the Alfred P.
- Sloan Foundation, the Simons Foundation, Schmidt Sciences, the Open Source for Science Fund, the US National Science Foundation and CAS, which will distribute credits to researchers.
- Institutional partners including the Space Telescope Science Institute, the Wellcome Sanger Institute, the Francis Crick Institute, Imperial College London's Department of Life Sciences, EMBL and Gladstone Institutes will use the credits internally.
- Anthropic says many projects will produce public goods such as open datasets, open-source software, open standards and shared libraries.
- It also points to earlier collaborations, including the Model Hardware Standard developed with HHMI Janelia Research Campus, currently in research preview, and work with the Allen Institute to build AI agent teams that turn months of manual analysis into hours.
