GitHub has made
OpenAI's GPT-6.1 Terra generally available in Copilot, giving Pro, Pro+, Max, Business and Enterprise users a cheaper option for everyday agentic coding and terminal work.
- The model costs less than GPT-6.1 Sol and is billed at provider list pricing under usage-based billing, with details in GitHub's Copilot models and pricing documentation.
- In early testing, GitHub says GPT-6.1 Terra solved noticeably more terminal and C# coding tasks than GPT-5.6 Terra, and that it works in focused, consolidated steps on well-scoped tasks.
- Users can pick the model in the model picker across Visual Studio Code, Visual Studio, Copilot CLI, the Copilot cloud agent, the Copilot app, github.com, GitHub Mobile on iOS and Android, JetBrains IDEs, Xcode and Eclipse.
- Rollout will be gradual, so GitHub tells users to check back soon if the model does not appear yet.
- Copilot Enterprise and Copilot Business administrators can manage access through the model policy in Copilot settings, where new models are enabled by default unless an administrator has turned off the global default or explicitly disabled this one.
