Smartsheet has launched a generally available Model Context Protocol server that lets AI assistants read, write and manage Smartsheet data, and AWS's guide shows how to connect it to Amazon Quick and Kiro.
- The server spans more than 40 tools for exploring, creating and managing sheets, rows, columns and automations, so users can update task statuses, create rows and change project structure through natural language.
- Amazon Quick, an agentic workspace for business users and operations teams, includes Smartsheet as a pre-built connector in its directory, requiring only a client ID and secret from a Smartsheet app registration.
- Kiro, an agentic IDE, connects through a config file and personal access token, letting developers pull sprint sheets, see open backend tasks and have a hook mark a row Complete when a fix is committed.
- Smartsheet says the server returns structured context such as row relationships, column types, cell history and comments, producing token-efficient payloads rather than raw API responses, which it says reduces cost and improves latency at scale.
- The server is available at commercial US, EU and AU endpoints, uses Streamable HTTP transport and authenticates with OAuth 2.0 or a Personal Access Token.
- Connecting requires an AWS account with IAM permissions and a Smartsheet account on a Business, Enterprise or AWM plan.
