Cloudflare and Commerce.com are turning on WebMCP across almost 100,000 storefronts, giving AI agents structured shopping tools instead of making them guess their way around a page.
- WebMCP is a browser standard from Google that exposes tools such as search_products, so an agent calls the tool it needs rather than simulating clicks that cookie banners, variant drop-downs or bot challenges can break.
- Cloudflare's edge implementation, launched in beta in August, injects a script at the edge so site owners write no code.
- Commerce.com uses Cloudflare for SaaS to host thousands of merchant vanity domains on shared zones, so the two hooked WebMCP into Configuration Rules and custom hostname metadata: Commerce.com enables it for its main zone, and a merchant who flips the opt-out switch in the Commerce.com dashboard is bypassed automatically.
- Because rules are evaluated at the edge before the page is served, an opted-out store gets zero extra latency, no remote lookups and no injected scripts.
- The tools run inside the shopper's active browser session on the storefront's domain, so the agent sees the same prices and cart, no credentials go to a third party, and the shopper clicks checkout themselves.
