An independent Schlotzsky's and Cinnabon franchisee in New Mexico is using ChatGPT and ChatGPT Work to run pricing, labor and back-office tasks across three restaurants, cutting monthly cash reconciliation from three hours to 5-10 minutes.
- Ted Taylor, who spent 25 years in semiconductors before entering the restaurant business, uses ChatGPT Work to pull together recipe costs, item popularity, competitor pricing and delivery economics, producing item-level price recommendations in one to two hours instead of five days.
- He also gave the tool read-only access to sales and labor data, where it compares scheduled, budgeted and actual hours against forecasts and flags overtime, overlong shifts and coverage gaps.
- A scheduling test with one store manager produced a full weekly schedule that the manager reviews and enters into the restaurant's scheduling system; Taylor estimates better scheduling could eventually cut hourly labor costs by one to two percentage points of sales, adding $50,000 to $100,000 in annual free cash flow.
- ChatGPT Work also cut four hours of manual work from every payroll cycle, and Taylor used ChatGPT to draft an HR policy in about 30 seconds and a social media policy that an outside HR firm reviewed without changes.
