The Lenfest Institute grows landmark program with expanded OpenAI support

OpenAI commits $5M plus credits to expand journalism AI fellowship

Partnership

OpenAI is expanding its partnership with the Lenfest Institute for Journalism, committing an additional $5 million plus up to $5 million in software credits and engineering support to the Lenfest AI Collaborative and Fellowship Program, which places AI engineers in local news organizations.

The program, launched in 2024 with 11 news organizations, will invite a new group of newsrooms to join the next phase.

The program will expand with a new $5 million commitment from OpenAI, along with up to $5 million in software credits and engineering support. OpenAI has doubled its previous support of the program.
