ByteDance, Alibaba and Tencent have ordered more than 3 million Nvidia RTX PRO 5500 GPUs worth over $35 billion, but Nvidia says it cannot guarantee it can fill the orders.
The RTX PRO 5500 is a graphics card designed for personal computers with specifications similar to the RTX 6000D, which Nvidia built with reduced performance to comply with U.S. export controls, according to Seoul Economic Daily.
Chinese companies are acquiring the RTX PRO 5500 for AI inference rather than for use in personal computers, as inference requires less computing power than training models, the people told Reuters.
Nvidia has warned customers and partners that it cannot guarantee it can fill the orders, and Reuters reports customers might only get 5 to 10 percent of what they requested.
