GitHub is adding projects to its Copilot app, giving work that spans several repositories or no repository at all a single place to hold its context, agents and results.
- A user starts a project, describes the goal, and adds context such as repositories, design mocks, Slack threads or meeting notes, then picks the models and tools for the job.
- Copilot runs as many agents as the work needs and returns results such as pull requests for review, and project automations handle repeatable tasks like making a promo video whenever a feature lands.
- Copilot Projects are in public preview, and a focused task in one repository can still be started as a session directly from that repository.
- The app also adds computer use, in public preview on macOS and Windows, which lets Copilot read app content, click controls, enter or edit text and move across apps, including those without an API, command-line interface or MCP integration.
- Copilot asks for approval before controlling an app, and organizations can disable the feature through managed settings; on macOS users must grant Accessibility and Screen Recording permissions.
