Sakana AI announces the Darwin Gödel Machine (DGM), a self-improving coding agent that rewrites its own code to improve performance on programming tasks, leveraging foundation models and open-ended algorithms.

Experiments show performance improvements on SWE-bench (from 20.0% to 50.0%) and Polyglot (from 14.2% to 30.7%).
