Sakana AI announces that a paper extending their collective intelligence research into physical hardware has been accepted for publication in Nature Communications. The paper describes a system of hundreds of physical 3D cellular bricks that run identical local Neural Cellular Automata without any global knowledge and collaboratively infer their overall shape class. The system can detect missing or damaged modules and guide recovery. The work is a collaboration with IT University of Copenhagen and Autodesk. The paper and accompanying code on GitHub are available.
