Reinventing a Critical Chemical — Without Relying on Fossil Fuels

Tencent's CarbonX program supports CERT Systems, which uses Direct CO2 Electrolysis to convert captured carbon dioxide, water, and clean electricity into ethylene, aiming to replace fossil-fuel-based production. The company achieved a lab milestone of converting atmospheric CO2 into ethylene and plans to scale to a commercial demonstration project outside Canada.

Their method, Direct CO2 Electrolysis, captures carbon dioxide from industrial emissions or directly from the atmosphere, then feeds it into an electrolyzer with water and clean electricity.
