Anthropic announced Claude Duet, a proactive personal agent that runs in the background and handles work on a user's behalf, now in research preview with a waitlist.
- The company says it built Duet around its flagship Opus 5.5 model, released in late September and already one of the industry's most popular.
- Duet sends users a morning brief about activity in their connected apps and messages them when something needs attention, running outside the user's computer and asking for approval on certain tasks.
- Mike Krieger, a co-lead of Anthropic's Labs team, said in a launch video that the tool "can have the discernment and judgment around when to be proactive, when to act on your behalf."
- Karan Ahuja, who led product management for
Meta Superintelligence Labs until July, started at Anthropic in August and led Duet's development; he wrote that the team built it for professionals and small business owners juggling work and home.
- Anthropic is admitting people from the waitlist "as quickly as possible," and Meta's Alexandr Wang posted a meme about Duet's similarity to Meta's Muse.
