The European Broadcasting Union is expanding its sovereign framework with NVIDIA, adding cloud providers, open model developers and integrators to define how European public service broadcasters deploy AI agents while keeping control of their data.
The EBU, an alliance of over 115 member organizations in more than 55 countries reaching over 1 billion people, says the standards are meant to protect editorial independence, data sovereignty and national resilience as agents move into newsrooms and audience services.
The expanded initiative will define requirements and reference architectures for where workloads run, how data is governed, which models power services and how systems stay secure.
Microsoft will contribute expertise from Microsoft Sovereign Cloud, including Azure Local and Foundry Local, so broadcasters can process sensitive editorial material locally and keep services running when connectivity is down, while Nebius offers a platform to train, fine-tune and run models on European infrastructure.
NVIDIA Nemotron open models provide a foundation broadcasters can customize for domain-specific applications, and Qvest and other integrators will provide media-specific consulting to make the architectures deployable.
Separately, Adobe is using NVIDIA accelerated computing for Frame.io video search, with NVDEC decoding, TensorRT inference and CUDA preprocessing, reporting about 5x faster embedding generation, up to 4x higher throughput and up to 5x lower latency.
A new two-frame-per-second proxy, about 80% smaller than the 360p version it replaces, cuts storage and transfer; German producer UFA, which delivers more than 3,500 hours of programming a year, uses Frame.io semantic search to find moments by concept, action or setting.
