Ai2 released HiRO-ACEv2, an update to its climate emulator that combines a coarse 100 km AI model (ACE) with a new downscaling model (HiROv2) to produce global 3 km climate data.
HiROv2 predicts multiple high-resolution fields simultaneously and improves accuracy for extreme rain, wind, and pressure events, matching target simulation statistics to within 3% for events occurring once in a million data points.
The full system generates global 3 km data at roughly 1/300th the cost of the X-SHiELD atmospheric model, with further savings possible for regional simulations.
