Sakana AI's study, to be presented at ECCV2026, introduces Percept-Lens, a benchmark for evaluating AI-generated image detectors under distribution shifts, and a new detector that keeps a general-purpose vision model frozen while fitting a simple Gaussian decision rule to its representations.
On the same broad evaluation suite, this detector outperformed the strongest released AI-generated image detector tested, despite not being trained specifically for the task.
