Microsoft introduced MAI-Code-1-Flash, a coding model trained from scratch on clean, enterprise-grade data without distillation from third-party models.
The model is rolling out to GitHub Copilot individual users in Visual Studio Code and outperforms Claude Haiku 4.5 on all tested coding benchmarks, including a +16-point lead on SWE-Bench Pro (51.2% vs.
35.2%).
It is designed for agentic coding in real developer environments and uses adaptive solution length control to reduce token usage by up to 60% on harder problems.
