Nvidia says it will provide $250 million in compute over five years to UK research on agentic AI safety, delivered as $50 million of compute a year through UK-based cloud partners.
Nvidia said on Oct. 14 it will provide $250 million in compute support over five years for UK research into agentic AI safety and security, describing it as a compute donation rather than a cash grant.
Compute access will be delivered through UK-based Nvidia Cloud Partners on UK-hosted infrastructure, but provider selection, technical architecture and commercial terms have not yet been agreed.
Most of the computing resources will be available to the wider UK AI safety research community, with dedicated support for the Oxford-led BOLD lab, the UCL-led SOFAIR lab and Imperial College London.
Nvidia CEO Jensen Huang said he would halt chip supply to a customer developing unsafe AI software, though he does not believe the current level of concern about the technology is warranted.
