EU Teachers Agenda: Enhancing the attractiveness of the education and training profession
European Commission
Official summary
Teacher shortages weaken Member States’ capacities to ensure high-quality, inclusive education. Driven by an ageing workforce, low career attractiveness and mounting workload, the teaching profession faces recruitment and retention challenges. Societal demands and the use of artificial intelligence require new pedagogical skills. This proposal for a Council Recommendation aims to complement Member States’ efforts to make teaching attractive, improve career paths and modernise professional training. This initiative is part of the Education Package; the Call for evidence is published under “Quality Education for All: A 2040 Roadmap”.
