OpenAI plans to make its latest large language models available in
Google Cloud through Alphabet's Model Garden service, which already offers access to more than 200 neural networks.
- The first model OpenAI is bringing is its flagship GPT-6 Astra, which the company says is responsible for several of its published AI-produced math discoveries and achieved a perfect score on ExploitBench, a benchmark measuring how well LLMs find and exploit cybersecurity flaws.
- Astra includes safety optimizations for enterprise use; according to OpenAI, it causes "fewer misaligned outcomes" than all the other frontier models it has evaluated, and it is configured not to bypass user-defined restrictions on the tasks it can perform.
- Google Cloud customers will also get GPT-6.1 Sol and GPT-6 Luna, two scaled-down versions of Astra that OpenAI launched in late September and that trade off some output quality for a significant reduction in token pricing, costing five and 100 times less than Astra respectively.
- OpenAI says Google Cloud customers can pay for access using the long-term spending commitments cloud providers offer enterprises, removing the need to set up a new AI budget and easing procurement.
- Astra, Sol and Luna will become generally available in Model Garden within a few weeks, and the companies plan to follow up by bringing the models to Google's Confidential Compute portfolio, which uses TEE to encrypt a segment of host server memory so only a specific workload can reach it.
