Google SynthID, a digital watermarking tool for AI-generated content, was named to TIME's annual list of Best Inventions of 2026.
SynthID embeds invisible watermarks into images, audio, video, and text at creation without altering quality, and has watermarked over 180 billion images and videos and 240,000 years of audio.
Verification tools are built into Google Search, the Gemini app, and Chrome, and a SynthID Detector is available for content from Google and its partners.
