Anthropic updated its election safeguards ahead of the 2026 US midterms, including integrating official voting information from Democracy Works into Claude.ai responses and showing election night results.
The company reported that Claude Opus 5.5, Sonnet 5.5, and Haiku 5.5 scored 99% on its political even-handedness evaluation, and that independent reviews identified areas for improvement such as unsolicited caveats and uneven hedging.
Anthropic also shared usage data showing that about 5.75% of US Claude.ai conversations touch on politics, with 0.51% specifically about elections or voting.
