Fluid: How we built serverless servers

Vercel described the infrastructure behind Fluid compute, which powers over 45 billion weekly requests and saves customers up to 95% by never charging CPU rates for idle time.

The system uses a secure TCP-based tunnel to stream responses from AWS Lambda, and a compute-resolver service to route requests efficiently.

Active CPU pricing was introduced at Vercel Ship 2025 for more cost-effective compute.
