Introducing Agent Plugins

Vercel announced Agent Plugins 1.0.0, an open, vendor-neutral standard for packaging Agent Skills and MCP servers into distributable plugins.

The format defines a directory structure with a plugin.json manifest and fixed locations for components, leaving client-specific behavior to each client.

The specification was refined collaboratively with representatives from AWS, Anysphere, GitHub, Microsoft, OpenAI, and Vercel, and is supported at launch by ChatGPT, Codex, Cursor, GitHub Copilot, Kiro, and VS Code.
