Google Research published two studies in Nature Cancer evaluating an AI-based breast cancer detection system. The first study assessed standalone AI performance and integration feasibility across multiple NHS screening services, showing the AI system achieved higher sensitivity than human readers without compromising specificity, and detected 25% of interval cancers missed in the double-read workflow. The second study compared the AI as a second reader against the original double-read and arbitration process. The results strengthen evidence for AI's potential in supporting breast cancer screening.
