Workers increasingly incorporate cross-occupation AI tasks into regular workflows over time.
OpenAI's economic research analyzes over 1.5 million work-related ChatGPT messages from April through July 2026, finding that workers increasingly incorporate cross-occupation tasks into regular workflows.
The study shows that cross-occupation AI use grew from 13.1% of occupation-specific activity in April to 25.9% in July, with workers returning to these tasks at rates of 18.5% on average, suggesting AI may reshape job responsibilities before job titles change.
