University of Manchester develops AI model to forecast UK air pollution at 2-3 kilometer resolution.
The University of Manchester, working with NVIDIA, used the Earth-2 family of open AI models to forecast air pollution across the UK.
The team trained Earth-2 CorrDiff and Earth-2 StormCast on the Isambard-AI supercomputer, achieving a UK-wide pollution model at 2-3 square kilometer resolution in two days, and demonstrated the workflow on the DGX Spark desktop system.
The team plans to release open source training data and workflows so similar models can be trained for other regions.
