The FBI has officially attributed the $6.3 billion theft from Binance to North Korean state-sponsored hackers known as TraderTraitor.
The FBI said it observed TraderTraitor actors converting stolen assets primarily into Ethereum and expects further laundering through DeFi and instant swap services.
Binance said it has replenished 90% of the stolen assets using company funds and is committed to covering the remaining 10%, with withdrawals resuming in phases.
The FBI, along with the U.S. Secret Service and IRS Criminal Investigation, urged crypto exchanges and blockchain analytics firms to block transactions linked to addresses used by the hackers.
