Baidu officially released ERNIE 5.1, a new model derived from ERNIE 5.0 with compressed parameters (total to ~1/3, active to ~1/2) and pre-training cost at only 6% of comparable models. It uses a disaggregated fully-asynchronous reinforcement learning infrastructure. ERNIE 5.1 achieved 4th place globally and 1st among Chinese models on the Arena Search leaderboard, and shows strong agentic, reasoning, and knowledge capabilities.
