OpenAI is buying Pierre Computer Company, the startup behind Code Storage and several open-source tools whose libraries already power OpenAI's coding agent Codex. OpenAI says the acquisition is about making Git workflows work better when developers and AI agents are writing code side by side, since the tooling around Git has to keep up as agents handle more tasks in parallel. Pierre's tools include Trees, which handles fast project file navigation, Diffs, which displays code changes and lets users fix bugs right in the diff view, and Highlights, a real-time syntax highlighter that works as developers type or an AI agent generates code. Code Storage stores code and tracks history through Git. OpenAI already runs Pando, its own version control backend built for both developers and agents. Pierre's open-source projects will stay open source, and the deal still needs regulatory approval.
