OpenAI says it will acquire Pierre Computer Company, Inc., the company behind Code Storage and a family of open-source developer tools, to expand Codex's tools for building, understanding and reviewing code. Pierre's Trees and Diffs libraries already power file browsing and change review in the Codex app, and OpenAI says it wants to build on the Git workflows developers already rely on and adapt them to how teams work with coding agents. The move follows OpenAI's disclosure earlier in the week of Pando, its in-house source control backend for engineers and agents, which it says shows how the systems around Git need to evolve as more work happens in parallel. Pierre's open-source projects will remain open-source and OpenAI says it will continue to contribute to them, while customers can keep using Code Storage after the deal closes as OpenAI works to bring its features into Codex. The acquisition is subject to customary closing conditions, including regulatory approvals, and the two companies will remain separate and independent until it closes.
