Meta is supporting research at five US universities — Caltech, Ohio State's College of Medicine, Louisiana State University, Indiana University and UTHealth Houston — with access to its AI models, collaboration with Meta researchers and funding for select projects. Researchers will build with the Muse model family, including Muse Spark Open, which Meta calls its most capable open-weight model, and Muse Glimmer, a 30B open-weight model that can run on a single consumer GPU. They will also use computer vision models such as Meta Segment Anything Model (SAM), V-JEPA and DINO, the multilingual SeamlessM4T model, and in some projects wearable technologies from Meta. The work spans medicine, physics, chemistry, biology, computer science and mathematics, with medical projects targeting patient outcomes, AI-powered medical training and gaps in low-resource environments. For healthcare projects, universities run Meta's models in their own environments and retain control of all patient and clinical data, which Meta says will not be shared with, processed by or made available to it. At Caltech, an expanded partnership gives researchers access to frontier Muse models through Meta's first-party API, and mathematician Dr. Tony Yue Yu is building MathDB Frontier on a database of more than 86,900 research-level open problems.

## Evidence

Verbatim from https://research.meta.ai/blog/supporting-medical-scientific-research:

> For the healthcare projects described below, participating universities will run models from Meta within their own institution's environments. The universities will independently conduct the research and retain control of all patient and clinical data; that data will not be shared with, processed by, or otherwise made available to Meta.
