- Pricing: billed for each model it uses, at each model's standard rate; 30% discount on model costs when using Copilot Fusion for a limited time

GitHub made Copilot Fusion generally available, letting Copilot route and orchestrate which models handle each task instead of users picking one. The system combines Project HydraFusion's multi-model orchestration with Copilot auto model selection's fine-tuned model selection, which GitHub says balances performance and cost efficiency. GitHub says Copilot Fusion Max scored 60 on the Artificial Analysis Coding Agent Index, within two points of Claude Code with Opus 5.5 Max, at about half the average API cost per task, using about half as many tokens and about 40% less time per task. Users select Copilot Fusion in the model picker and then choose an effort level: Fusion Standard for everyday coding, Fusion High for challenging tasks and deeper reasoning, and Fusion Max for the most demanding tasks. Copilot Fusion can solve a task with one model, or use Cascade, where an efficient model drafts and a quality check decides whether to escalate, or Critique, where one model drafts, another reviews, and the first revises. Administrators control which models Copilot Fusion may use and can set it as the default through Enterprise managed settings, and it only uses models enabled in enterprise and organization model policies. It is available on all Copilot plans in Visual Studio Code, the GitHub Copilot app, GitHub Copilot CLI and JetBrains IDEs, with more clients coming soon; users are billed at each model's standard rate, with a limited-time 30% discount on model costs for paid plans.

## Evidence

Verbatim from https://github.blog/changelog/2026-10-28-route-and-orchestrate-models-with-github-copilot-fusion:

> GitHub Copilot Fusion is generally available. Instead of picking a model for each task, choose Copilot Fusion and let Copilot intelligently route and orchestrate which models it uses for you.
>
> Copilot Fusion brings together Project HydraFusion’s multi-model orchestration and Copilot auto model selection’s fine-tuned model selection, leveraging the benefits of both to balance performance and cost efficiency.
>
> Since Project HydraFusion launched, we’ve improved its performance. In the Artificial Analysis Coding Agent Index, Copilot Fusion Max scored 60, within two points of Claude Code with Opus 5.5 Max. It delivered that result at about half the average API cost per task, using about half as many tokens and taking about 40% less time per task.
>
> When you select Copilot Fusion in the model picker, you aren’t selecting a specific model. You’re choosing a system that routes and orchestrates models for each task. There’s no need to switch models during a task or decide which model suits each step. For each prompt, Copilot Fusion determines which models to use and how they work together, while you choose the right level of effort.
