Baseten is launching the Baseten Environment Network, a group of vetted RL environment companies that will build custom reinforcement-learning environments for its customers. Baseten says high-quality environments are critical to post-training and that it has built one for each of its engagements, including work for Harvey, Lovable and Gamma, but the work is manually intensive and needs more teams with that expertise. Baseten says it spoke to many RL environment companies, audited them and shortlisted heavily before referring customers to them. Each engagement starts with Baseten scoping the project through discovery and calibration; the company says domain experience is not the primary referral criterion, and that it asks whether it trusts a partner's process and can map it onto the customer's needs. The partner then works directly with the customer, taking their real-world data and building the environments, which can include creating and reviewing tasks, writing rubrics and providing resources to produce data. Baseten's training team still trains and deploys the model onto its production inference once the environments are ready. Baseten says it will soon open-source a set of frontier-quality environments, many built with network partners, along with how it audits and trains on them, for uses such as research and standardizing evaluations.
