GitHub's September update for Copilot in Visual Studio 2026 adds three capabilities: a Git agent that explores pull requests, changes to Bring Your Own Model, and a NuGet vulnerability fixer. The Git agent can now explore a pull request, letting users open Copilot Chat, select the Git agent, and attach a pull request from the Git Repository window to get a summary with navigable links to comments and files. That requires connecting the Git provider's MCP servers, and GitHub and Azure DevOps are both supported. BYOM, available in preview, lets teams use their preferred models through GitHub Copilot or their own deployments, whether or not they are signed in to GitHub, and is on by default across the Community, Professional, and Enterprise editions. It now requires the new Agent (Preview) built on the GitHub Copilot SDK-powered harness, so the previous Ask and Agent modes no longer support BYOM and previously configured Ollama models must be re-added; supported providers include Microsoft Foundry, OpenAI, Anthropic, and Ollama. NuGet Audit warnings in the Error List now include a fixer action that opens Copilot Chat in agent mode and asks Copilot to fix vulnerable packages using the NuGet MCP server, which requires signing in to GitHub Copilot and enabling that server from the Copilot Chat tools menu. The update is available on all GitHub Copilot plans, including Copilot Free, Student, Pro, Pro+, Max, Business, and Enterprise.

> Breaking change: BYOM now requires the new Agent (Preview), built on the GitHub Copilot SDK-powered harness. The previous Ask and Agent modes no longer support BYOM, and you’ll need to re-add previously configured Ollama models after updating.
