GitHub has added an opt-in Industry comparison section to the Copilot impact dashboard, letting enterprises and independent organizations rank their Copilot agentic adoption against aggregated peer benchmarks. The company says enterprise leaders could already measure their own Copilot adoption, but until now they couldn't tell whether it was leading or lagging comparable businesses. The benchmarks show the share of users who are agent-first or multi-agent, and compare the pull request merge rate of agentic users with nonagentic users. Once enough businesses opt in, each score is ranked against the peer median for the 28-day reporting period and against the top decile as the peer group grows. Users pick a company size band and one of ten industries, and can switch between their own industry and all industries; if a peer group is too small, the comparison widens to all industries for that company size and the dashboard labels the group it used. Participation is disabled by default and can be turned on from the dashboard or centrally through enterprise or organization Copilot policies, which share the same setting. Rankings may be missing soon after launch, and are not shown when a score cannot be calculated, such as when all users are already agent-first or multi-agent. Comparisons refresh daily, opting out stops them immediately and excludes data from the next daily update, and aggregated benchmarks carry no identifying data and are deleted after 30 days. On GitHub Enterprise Cloud with data residency, participants are compared only with others in the same region, and data is never combined across regions. Organizations owned by an enterprise participate through their enterprise, and enterprises used only to assign Copilot Business licenses cannot take part. Industry comparisons appear only in the dashboard and are not included in the Copilot usage metrics API, NDJSON exports, or downloads.

## Evidence

Verbatim from https://github.blog/changelog/2026-10-22-industry-comparisons-in-the-copilot-impact-dashboard:

> Enterprise leaders can measure their own Copilot adoption, but until now they couldn’t tell whether it was leading or lagging comparable businesses. Industry comparisons add the peer context needed to set realistic goals, identify adoption gaps, and communicate progress.
