Uber is putting ChatGPT Work in front of its entire global workforce of about 30,000 people, expanding a partnership with OpenAI that began as a 1,000-employee pilot earlier this year. The enterprise-focused AI agent was introduced in July for corporate teams to deploy across workflows, and Uber says OpenAI worked closely with it on the integration. Uber's earlier pilot drew workers from finance, operations and product, and Sumanth Sukumar, Uber's VP of engineering, told TechCrunch that about 80% of the early adopters were non-engineers. Those workers used it to analyze operations data for trends and recommendations, localize training materials for different markets and languages, and build personalized interactive dashboards. Sukumar said Uber's approach is to make powerful AI tools available while giving teams room to experiment, pointing to 30 AI engineers paired with teams for two weeks to automate parts of their jobs. Uber did not disclose what it is spending on the rollout; Sukumar said the company will track how employees use the tool and the workflows they develop, then use those outcomes to guide AI deployment.
