Anthropic has added experimental physicist Christopher Stubbs to its Long-Term Benefit Trust, the body that can appoint a majority of the company's board. Stubbs is the Samuel C. Moncher Professor of Physics and of Astronomy at Harvard, where he was Dean of Science from 2018 to 2024, and he becomes the Trust's first physicist. He helped discover the accelerating expansion of the universe in 1998 as a member of the High-Z Supernova Search Team, work that later earned the team the Breakthrough Prize in Fundamental Physics. He was also the inaugural project scientist for what is now the Vera C. Rubin Observatory, which began a 10-year survey of the southern sky in June. Stubbs has written about keeping AI-assisted research reproducible when models give different answers to the same question, and he is a member of JASON, which has advised the US government on defense and technology since 1960. He joins chair Neil Buddy Shah, national security expert Richard Fontaine and former Federal Reserve Chair Ben Bernanke; trustees are independent of Anthropic's management and investors.
