OpenAI has acquired drug development software startup Orchestra Bio and folded its staff and technology into OpenAI's Rosalind life sciences unit. Orchestra builds AI agents that help pharmaceutical teams keep development programs on track, monitoring studies and, per TechCrunch's write-up of the deal, tracking finances and sorting out clinical trial scheduling problems. OpenAI's case for the deal rests on how long drugs take to reach patients: by its count, U.S. regulatory approval takes 10 to 15 years on average, and programs pass between departments and outside partners whose systems often do not connect. In OpenAI's telling, a failed manufacturing batch that threatens to push a trial back would set the software to work out which activities and timelines are hit and weigh ways to respond, though people still make the final call. Terms were not disclosed, and OpenAI gave no timeline for when Orchestra's agents will show up in its products. The Rosalind business dates to April, when GPT-Rosalind launched as a reasoning model for biology and drug discovery research, and eligible organizations have been able to use it outside research preview since September under a trusted-access program. Novo Nordisk and Moderna are among the drugmakers already working with OpenAI on Rosalind, and the deal follows Torch Health joining OpenAI in January to build out ChatGPT Health.

## Evidence

Verbatim from https://siliconangle.com/2026/10/20/openai-acquires-orchestra-bio-to-bring-ai-agents-into-drug-development/:

> Orchestra's agents take over the monitoring of studies, and TechCrunch's write-up of the deal credits them with keeping track of finances and sorting out clinical trial scheduling problems as well. In OpenAI's telling, a failed manufacturing batch that threatens to push a trial back would set the software to work out which activities and timelines are hit and weigh ways to respond. People still make the final call.
