OpenAI has acquired Orchestra Bio, a startup whose platform coordinates drug development work across biopharma teams, and is folding its team and technology into Rosalind, OpenAI's life sciences brand. OpenAI says the goal is to help scientists manage the work that turns discoveries into treatments, noting that developing a new medicine takes roughly 10 to 15 years on average from target discovery through US regulatory approval. Orchestra Bio built its platform around people and AI agents working together: scientists hand off monitoring and tracking of studies to agents, which pinpoint the activities and timelines a problem touches and compare response options. Orchestra Bio, which started four years earlier, said it is joining OpenAI "to continue our mission at an even greater scale." Rosalind Workbench is in research preview, with an Explore mode using the latest ChatGPT models and a Research mode applying GPT-Rosalind to complex biological questions through an application process. OpenAI's product page reports benchmark results for GPT-Rosalind stated as increases in performance per token: 53.7% on Genebench, 18.0% on Medchem Bench, 19.6% on Labworkbench, and 4.42% on LifeSci Bench.
