Perplexity has switched the low, medium, high and xhigh presets of its Agent API to Fast Search for web_search, matching the fast preset. The change cuts the price of web_search calls made under those presets from $2.50 to $1.00 per 1,000 invocations, and Perplexity says search is about 800 ms faster. Models, prompts, tool budgets and step limits are unchanged. Developers who want to keep standard web search under any preset can set search_type: "web" on the web_search tool.
