Swiss AI released Apertus 1.5, an update to the 8B and 70B Apertus 1.0 models, adding image and audio understanding, an optional thinking mode, a 262,144-token context window, improved instruction-following, and better tool use. The model weights were released on Hugging Face under an Apache 2.0 license on July 24, 2026. The 8B model was trained on an additional 4 trillion tokens and the 70B model on 2 trillion tokens, for totals of 19T and 17T respectively.
