Vercel introduced a new low-level untrusted and ephemeral compute platform codenamed Hive, which has powered its builds since November 2023. The platform provides a 30% improvement in build performance and reduced provisioning times for Secure Compute customers from 90 seconds to 5 seconds. Hive uses KVM and Firecracker microVMs to securely run customer builds on multi-tenant machines.
